Preparing for Kansas Day!

With Kansas Day quickly approaching, we have been busy learning about the different symbols. We have learned about sunflowers, Jayhawks, buffalos and the state flag. We have also been joining all three Kinder classes to learn songs to sing around our "campfire" during our Kansas Birthday Celebration (Tuesday, Jan. 9th 2:15pm-3:30pm). The kids have been working hard and we hope that you can come celebrate Kansas Day with us!  Here are some photos of the things we have been working on.

Polar Express and Winter Party

I was excited for a snow day but bummed that we missed our Winter Party. Today we had our rescheduled party and the kids had a blast. We began by watching a read aloud of the Polar Express. This kids enjoyed "hot chocolate" chocolate milk and apple juice.We then went back to our room where there was centers set up around the room for them to participate in. Center one was decorating a gingerbread house, center two was putting peanut butter on a cardboard gingerbread man cut out and dipping it in bird seed to hang outside for the birds. Center three was snack (awesome snowman made out of cheese and crackers, gingerbread cookies and smoothies) and the fourth center was a snowman target where the kids threw velcro balls at it and won prizes if they stuck.

Fabulous Fun Fitness Friday

Once a month, Quail Run as a Fabulous Fun Fitness Friday. The students are encouraged to wear athletic clothes because we will be participating in various activities thought out the day. On January's FFFF, Mrs. Boyack (Matthew's mom) was invited to educate the entire school about creative movement and dance. Each grade level signed up for a 15 minutes time slot throughout the day. During our time, I snapped some photos to share with all of you! Mrs. Boyack has also been able to come into our classroom a few times this school year to help us in linking our curriculum with movement. It was great for the kids to be able to learn about the different seasons and rhyming words all while moving their bodies and tapping into their kinesthetic learning abilities.

Marshmallow Points

During the month of January we will be earning marshmallow points. The kids will be working as a group with the people at their tables to earn marshmallows in their mug. Once they have filled their mug, they get to eat lunch in the classroom with me and I will give them a cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows. Tables can earn points by working quietly and efficiently, being kind to each other, helping each other when they need help, and following directions. Working together as a group I have noticed that the kids tend to help motivate each other to do the right thing!

Winter Music Program

December 18th was our first ever Kindergarten Music Program. The kids worked on their songs for several weeks during music class. There were a few days before the program where all 3 Kindergarten classes got together to practice. They really enjoyed learning the songs and being able to sing them in front of their families.
